This video touches on the use of data and metrics to back up and validate the work we do. Data doesn’t lie, so using it to show problem areas that need to be improved on a site or app can help communicate the validity of suggested improvements. Data can also be used to show the improvements that have been made as a result of implemented changes, it can definitely add a level of validation to the work we do as designers.
I have been using ClickTale recently to learn more about how people use out site at PennySaver. I am sure that I have only scratched the surface, but will be digging in more to really get a detailed look at how our site is being used. Having a tool like this can be such a great asset, and there are a ton of research based tools that are available to us.
Even if your company doesn’t have the budget find a way, use 30 day trials, shows the value of the tool and see if you can get buy in. If not start with google analytics, and learn how to take advantage of it’s features.
