Nice video Aaron!!! Marc and I laughed about recommending the same thing, we didnt know that we each sent similar tweets until a bit later on when Marc was scanning.
I am totally with you about just stepping away when you are stuck. You cannot force creativity, its not creative when forced.
And that post by Gavin is just incredible, he did an awesome job of getting some top class designers in there. I recommend everyone read it.
Dude! Love the impromptu post about stepping away and finding inspiration in the life outside the web. I’ve been stuck inside all day at Dallas WordCamp, so I’m definitely looking forward to going to get drinks and something to eat afterwards. Thanks for the great reminder. Hope you had a good time at the pool.

I saw the post you are referencing, full of goodness.
Great advice, and I’m glad that there even is a design community around you that can give you advice and help you along. Good luck on your mock-ups hope they come together nicely.
I’d love a quick follow-up post covering if this was effective or not, and how it turned out. Best of luck.

Ya man, I took my wife and daughter to the fair today and did not touch my computer. It’s amazing how refeshed you can get stepping away for a few hours and getting out. Creativity and good ideas really come to me then.
Living in FL and having the beach 20 minutes away is awesome! You are so right about getting burnt. Hard work is necessary, but we’ve got to know our own constitutions (old school word I’m stealing from John Adams from the 18th century) as they relate to what we can handle physically and mentally. You should loop that fountain noise and offer it as a free download! I’m feeling more relaxed and inspired already

Great idea! a little rest and relaxation actually rejuvenates the brain cells, allowing us to process our thoughts stronger and faster, sleep is good to, for brain cell growth. Designers tend to stay up late and because we are so motivated we feel like superheroes, but superheroes need their rest
) thanks for the reminder!
Exactly Aaron. Last week was really rough on me in terms of deadlines at work, side work, and school work coming up this semester. So I took the weekend and went camping with friends on Fri, surfing all day Sat, and chilled at my mom’s on Sunday.. I made sure to relax so I can be refreshed for the labor this week. It’s healthy to just kick back and enjoy the sun every once in a while, because after you’re relaxed it seems like your creativity meter gets recharged again.

Good stuff, Aaron! I found myself getting SUPER stressed here at the office a few months ago, and discovered that getting up and talking with co-workers was a great way to disconnect and engage with something new. There have been countless times I’ve walked away from those conversations with fresh ideas that were sparked from things we’d talked about.
Also, a few months ago, I went on a solo camping trip up to Daingerfield State Park for a couple of days with nothing more than my bible, guitar, and some Donald Miller books. I wanted to completely disconnect – not just from the day-to-day work, but from life in general. Just an opportunity to step back and take a deep breath. It was an UNBELIEVABLE experience. I can’t suggest it enough.
Good luck with the comps, my friend. I look forward to seeing ‘em!
Cheers
Nicely said. I think I might take a vaction to Maui and get away….OH WAIT, i am (in a week). I actually am stoked to finally get away (far away) and spend time quality time alone, w/ family, and the big gun upstairs. Need a refresher. Glad you are doin the same. Peace Brada!

Very nice post. Love the video tutorials and I certainly agree to your points above. A good collection.
[...] talking with the Chat Creative panel this last Wednesday the topic of inspiration came up, and David, and Marc from Obox made a great point about not looking in the normal places [...]
Thanks for the great advice, and really love the bit of humor that you threw in there.
It’s interesting because while I was in college, I really found inspiration outside of the web. Now that I’m out of college, I tend to look to the web. But there’s so much good stuff out there in everyday life, and it is so relaxing.
