Friday Vidcast 6-26-09

This weeks Friday Vidcast is focused the design community. We also take a look at a couple of great sites,and discuss what the design community really is in the food for thought section.

So first off my apologies for the length of this weeks vidcast I went longer than I had planned so bear with me on this one, next week will be back to around 10 minutes.

News & Updates

We have a new member of the OneCss team. Josiah Platt has come on board to help out with keeping the site updated, and some other revisions we have planned. I have really enjoyed connecting with him on this project, and really look forward to continuing to work with him.

You can check him out here Magnt and follow him here @josiahplatt

Site of the Week

This weeks site of the week is 8164 there is a great article entitled “Enough is More” a really great read about taking the right approach to each project we are working on.

This article by Milton Glasser is linked in the article, and is a great read. “10 Things I have Learned”

Food for thought

Plain and simple…

Community is helping each other get to places that we can not reach on our own.

Wrapping Up

Thanks again for checking out TIAL, and sitting through one beast of a Friday Vidcast… next weeks will be a bit more compact.

For some #followfriday luv I shout out to Mike Acevedo who works with/for me at my job. He reminded me this week that no matter how frustrating things get… stick to your guns and get that crap done! follow him here @MiAcevedo

thanks gang

  1. Really like what you said – “don’t just retweet it” but actually endorse it. Very often I retweet stuff that I know is worthy, ex. TIAL, from the couch, and anything from kyle steed. Everything else, I friggin’ read/watch before retweeting! What a concept, eh? It’s similar to followfriday – do we just list a bunch of names, or do we actually endorse them? Its so generic and impersonal to just retweet mindlessly, heartlessly really. And I’d say 90% of people I follow who retweet, do it heartlessly and kind of out of obligation or something. /ramble :)

  3. I really liked the point that you made that the design community isn’t out to see who is the best designer, but that we all have our own talent and we use that talent to help each other. Whenever I ask for help with anything in terms of design, the designers I interact with on twitter and tinychat are always there to help me out. I have had nothing but positive and constructive critiques from everyone.

    Nice R2-D2 btw,

  4. Hello Aaron, this is Daniel from Brazil checking out the blog for the first time (and subscribing to it already!). This Vidcast totally made sense to me as I’m a motion designer and going through a hard time right now to get my personal projects done. Without even knowing it, you just gave me a little push towards my goal, you gave back that motivation we sometimes lose (because we’re tired or feeling we’re alone in this world or whatever): that was COMMUNITY for me at this moment! Keep on with the good Vidcasts and the blog, I’ll be a regular reader from now, hope we can keep in touch!

    All the best,
    Daniel.

    • @Daniel,
      Thanks for the compliments on the blog! That is awesome to hear that it has helped give you that extra push to get those projects done. That is the whole purpose of this blog. I look forward to interacting more in the future.

      @Casey,
      Exactly man… It is so helpful to have positive/helpful feedback from others… and thanks for the R2 props

      @Meredith,
      Thanks for the comment. We are only as good as our content… the people we endorse, and “stuff” we re-tweet says a lot about what we think is quality content. I try to keep that in mind when I am interacting in the social arena ( yes i just said arena… pretty epic lol )

  5. Hey Aaron, thanks for linking my article again. I’m flattered. I’ve been enjoying watch your vid cast series. I like how honest and genuine you’re with your design approaches and thoughts on the design community. keep up the good work!
