Friday Vidcast 9-18-09

This weeks Friday Vidcast covers the Collekt Creative meet up, and rewarding ourselves as designers by taking our time and enjoying our personal projects…

Josh Cagwin did a great job sharing his passions about user interface design, the ups and downs of working in house, and his new project with Joel Buekelman called the In House Grind. In House Grind looks to be a great resource for the many designers and developers who work in house, keep your eyes open for this site.

Site of the week

The site of the week this week is Noah Stokes “Es Bueno”. I really enjoy following him on twitter (@motherfuton) his light hearted approach to design is classic. he recently published a great article on his blog called “The State of the Web Design Profession” it a great read and I definitely suggest checking it out.

Wrapping Up

So make sure to follow Josh if you aren’t already and be watching for a vid from last nights collekt to be posted over the weekend.

Aaron, nice video man. Really appreciate you taking the time to help build upon recent discussions throughout the community.

One point I’d like to touch on is the taking your time of personal projects. I think applying that idea to blogs and “personal” sites is good to show quality and such. But one thing I couldn’t help but notice at the recent TechCrunch50 was how many startups had horrible looking sites.

Do you think that for those instances it’s better to get the core functionality and then just a sub-par design together for the sake of getting off the ground?

I have been working with my buddy on a new startup but we constantly trying to refine and layout the site that it’s been dragging along and barely catching any momentum because of us wanting to make it perfect from the start. Having worked for a company that was famous for “Get it up, and then fix it” .. I think there’s something to be said for just getting the idea up and then refining the details as you go.

Ahh man I am definitely guilty of just tweeting out articles and not commenting ={ Sometimes I wonder if im going to say the wrong thing. But commenting the articles is a great way to make conversation and connections. Even if its a “Great article I appreciated it” comment. Also when getting in on the conversation it only has plusses because either side can learn something new. Appreciate the friday vicasts man!!!
